Our story

The Bread Board began in my heart unknowingly as a child. As a young girl, I spent my days visiting and baking with my grandma next door. I loved to be in the kitchen with her. I also grew to love a lady who would show up to our house every week in her station wagon delivering day old English Muffins to my family. I could never remember her name and to this day I think of her as “the bread lady.”

In 2017 I had the opportunity to attend a week long sourdough artisan bread baking course. I learned the basics of how to make sourdough breads, bagels, focaccia and English Muffins. At the end of the week, I drove 5 hours to deliver my fresh baked English Muffins to “the bread lady” so I could thank her for weekly blessing my family so many years ago.

In 2018 I decided it was time to begin selling my products that I had been practicing since my class. In the fall of 2020 I began selling to a local market cafe and was so busy baking I had to hire someone so I didn’t have to work six 14 hour days anymore.

January 2021 was the beginning of bread subscriptions from my licensed home kitchen, bringing about a lot of excitement as I get to see the joy on my customers faces when they pick up a fresh baked loaf of sourdough bread that I have enjoyed creating for them.

August 2021 I finally opened up my storefront in downtown Pella, Iowa. I have loved expanding my business to more than just breads by adding muffins, cruffins, strudels, soups, salads, sandwiches, and more - made from scratch daily. It is such a joy to see so many people stop by and enjoy a variety of food from my kitchen.
